What Can a Child Do?

What Can a Child Do?

(By the author:  I used my imagination much more in this story than in others. As far as I know, the story of how Nada first met Archeia Charity has never been told. So I imagined how it might have happened, just to convey the beauty of the story, the great love of these characters, and I hope the story will open up the readers to love the nature and nature spirits more.)

The day began cloudy as usual during those days but as soon as her mother gave her permission, little Nada ran into her family's lush garden to play with her kitten. She laughed as the kitten chased after a small fabric ball she had thrown.

Suddenly, Nada could no longer hear the leaves rustling, the birds singing, or her kitten miaowing anymore. She saw a young lady approaching her. A soft pink glow seemed to surround her. She came to Nada and asked if they could sit on the nearby bench. As they sat down, Nada looked at her lovely face in awe. "You are so beautiful," she whispered. "Thank you," the lady replied.

The kitten jumped into the lady's lap and began to purr. The lady petted the cat and asked, "Would you like to help the nature kingdom? I can teach you how to do that." Nada nodded eagerly. "Focus on your heart. Feel the love. Intensify it by drawing it from the infinite resources of heaven. And then radiate it out into nature." Nada closed her eyes and followed her instructions. After a while, the lady said, "Look what you have accomplished." Nada looked around, jumped to her feet, and shouted with joy as the sky turned partially blue again and the sun finally shone.

"Can I help my brothers and sisters the same way? They seem to have so many problems." The lady smiled and said, "Indeed you can. Think of each one of them individually. Surround each one of them with love. See him full of light. And pray for him. As you bless your brothers and sisters in this way, they will eventually bless people through their art."

After this mighty lesson, Nada finally dared to ask in a whisper, "Who are you?" The lady answered, "My name is Charity. God saw how much love you have in your heart and He sent me, an angel of love, to teach you so that you can use your love to help make this world a better place." "Can a child like me do that?" Nada wondered, and the lady assured her, "Yes, a child can make this world a better place."

More and more nature spirits had gathered to watch what was happening in the garden and to feel the love that was radiating from there. A few gnomes peered from behind the lilies, and the most daring fairies slowly approached the girl and the lady. When the little girl and her kitten and the lady finally parted ways the nature spirits applauded and cheered, hoping the girl could hear them. It was such a relief for them to feel this little child's love for them. For so long, they had carried the burden of humans' harsh words and actions and impure feelings.

Nada ran toward her home eager to tell her mother what had happened. Then she stopped and put her finger to her lips. The lesson had been just for her. She should not to speak of it, she knew in her heart.

The lady was still watching her. What a great soul there was in that tiny body! What a great mission even a child could begin!
